PURPOSE: To obtain video signals with high resolution, by increasing apparent total number of arrays, through the control of position of a solid-state image pickup element in synchronizing with signal of the video signals.
CONSTITUTION: A solid-state image pickup element 1 is position-controlled with actuators a2 and b3. Driving pulses for the actuators a2 and b3 are obtained from actuator drive circuits a4 and a5 to which a signal of a vertical signal generating circuit 6 is given. At the initial state, the position of the array is at the position (a) as shown in figure and in the 2nd state, the position of array is at the position (b) through the driving of the actuator a2. In the 3rd state, the actuator b3 is driven and the position is at the (c). In the 4th state, the array takes the position (d) with the actuator a2 driven. In the 5th state, the array is restored to the position (a) with the actuator b3. Thus, apparent number of the arrays is four times and the resolution can be doubled.
