Abstract:
To provide technology with which illumination time of each illumination region is varied according to a change of motion of a moving image, and technology, in particular, with which afterglow of a backlight is reduced if the motion of a video is slow.
A video display device is equipped with: the backlight; a transmission-type display panel configured to control transmission of light coming from the backlight; a motion detecting means which detects motion between frames or fields of an input video signal; and a lighting time control means configured to control a lighting time of the backlight based on the detection result of the motion detecting means.
