Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a use of an alkali agent for pH adjusting by constituting a solubilizing stage with an alkali treating stage and a diaphragm electrolyzing stage and subjecting a sludge from the alkali treating stage to a cathodic treatment at an electrolyzing stage.
SOLUTION: This volume reducing device is composed of a diaphragm electrolyzer 1, the first alkali treating tank 2 and the second alkali treating tank 3. A surplus sludge generated at a biologically treating stage is supplied to the first alkali treating tank 2 and retained for a prescribed time. Then a part of this sludge is transferred to a cathode chamber 6 of the diaphragm electrolyzer 1 with a pump P. A remaining sludge is overflowed to the second alkali treating tank 3. The sludge transferred to the cathode chamber 6 of the diaphragm electrolyzer 1 is kept in alkaline and solubilized. In this way, the sludge is kept in a prescribed pH value by a circulating treatment. After that, the sludge is returned to the first alkali treating tank 2. The sludge in the second alkali treating tank 3 is transferred to an anode chamber 7 and made to weak acidic and discharged out of system.
