To provide a water treatment method and apparatus of ammonia-containing wastewater which can improve the use efficiency of a carrier to remove nitrogen with high efficiency by inhibiting the formation of a biofilm (a microorganism film) on a carrier surface, and making bacteria enter into not only a vicinity of the surface of a PVA gel carrier but also the inside of the carrier and grow there, in a method for biologically denitrifying raw water (wastewater) by the anaerobic ammonia oxidation process (anammox process).
The water treatment method of ammonia-containing wastewater comprises a denitrification reaction tank 2 for biologically denitrifying the ammonia-containing wastewater with denitrifying microorganisms in presence of nitrite nitrogen. The denitrifying microorganisms are immobilized by the carriers 8 in the denitrification reaction tank 2, and the carriers 8 in which the denitrifying microorganisms have been immobilized form a fluidized bed circulating in the denitrification reaction tank 2 in an ascending flow. By increasing the flow rate of inflow water at the circulating water inlet of the denitrification reaction tank 2, the flow condition of the carriers 8 is locally increased to destroy the biofilm (microorganism film) formed on the surface of the carrier 8.
