Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make it possible to enhance the self holdability at the time of switching in a waveguide type optical switch.

CONSTITUTION: Two cores 2 covered with clads having a low refractive index are formed so as to intersect with each other on a substrate 1 and a groove 3 is formed to intersect diagonally with these cores 2 on the intersected parts. A pipe 5 sealed with a refractive index matching agent 6 in such a manner that a reduced pressure space 7 is generated is inserted into this groove 3. The pipe 5 is inserted and fixed by a UV curing resin as an adhesive. The refractive index matching agent 6 is sealed under a reduced pressure. The groove 3 is provided with heaters 8a, 8b near its both ends in order to move the refractive index matching agent 6 by heating.
