Title:
WEAR-DOWN MEASURING PLUG FOR STERN TUBE SEALING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3806500
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent oil from flowing out from a chamber of a stern tube sealing device and seawater from penetrating in the same chamber, when measuring wear-down of a stern tube bearing in seawater by using a wear-down gauge. SOLUTION: In a rear stern tube sealing device 2, a gauge rod 15a of a wear-down gauge 15 can be put in and out, in order to measure wear-down of a stern tube bearing 3 in seawater by attaching the wear-down gauge 15 to the circumference of a chamber (20 or 21) composed of two seal rings. In addition, a plug 16 of a rubber or a polymer material to prevent oil sealed in the chamber from flowing out and seawater from penetrating in by acting as an elastic thin film 16u when the gauge rod 15a is not inserted, is attached to a seal casing (6 or 7).
