PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the stable operation of a desulturizing device by accelerating the oxidation and neutralization reaction of an absorbent solution and preventing the settling of the solid such as gypsum by eliminating the dead space of slurry agitation at a rectangular liquid reservoir.
SOLUTION: The flow for sweeping the absorbent solution to the direction from a slurry agitator 11 to a discharge piping 12 of a circulation pump 6 is generated and moreover the solution is made to flow to the circulation pump 6 direction by the draw-in force resulted from the suction of the solution by the circulation pump 6 by arranging the slurry agitator 11 at the position at which the sweeping direction of the absorbent solution from the agitator 11 is placed oppositly to a discharge piping 12 of the circulation pump at the liquid reservoir 7 provided at the lower part of a absorption tower body 1 having a rectangular horizontal section. Therefore, a dwelling part of the solution is hardly caused at the liquid reservoir 7, especially bottom part, and the solid matter such as gypsum is hardly caused. In such a way, the pH of the absorbent solution becomes liable to recover since the retention time of the limestone supplied to the liquid reservoir 7 at the liquid reservoir 7 is increased.
