Title:
WHISKER-REINFORCED MORTAR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03174343
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain such whisker-reinforced mortar suitable for a structural material which has high strength and dimensional stability and can be aged in an autoclave and by incorporating whiskers and aggregates having specified particle size into mortar.

CONSTITUTION: Whiskers (e.g. carbon whiskers) are produced by a vapor phase method that, for example, carbon source gas such as methane, acetylene, etc., and catalyst gas such as ferrocene, iron acetylacetate, etc., are carried by a carrier gas and heated at high temp. Then the obtd. whiskers are used with cement, aggregates (e.g. quartzite, 'Shirasu' sand balloon) having the average particle size less than twice of diameter of the whisker, etc., to produce whisker- reinforced mortar by premixing method, sheet manufacturing method, extrusion molding, etc. By this method, adhesion property of whiskers and hardening body can be improved by using aggregates of small particle size, which make the mortar structure more dense and increases the reinforcing effect of the whiskers.
