PURPOSE: To obtain the subject wrapper having improved various characteristics including combustibility and made up of a special inner layer surrounding a fuel element and an outer layer comprising cellulose fibers, microfibers and attapulgite clay.
CONSTITUTION: This wrapper for smoking articles is made up of a cellulosic inner layer 4 and an outer layer 5 surrounding the inner layer; wherein the inner layer 4 surrounds a fuel element 2, produces highly permeable ash after burning under smoking conditions, and has biased burn properties; the outer layer 5 comprises 40-80 wt.% of cellulose fibers, 10-30 wt.% of heat-resistant microfibers an 10-30 wt.% of a mineral filler of attapulgite clay and also contains 0-10 wt.% of a burn enhancer (e.g. sodium citrate), imparting throttling effect on the fuel element 2 under smoking conditions.
