Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (X, Y and Z are H, halogen or lower alkyl; W is H or halogen; at least one of X, Y, Z and W is not H; R is H or lower alkyl) and its salt.
EXAMPLE: 4-Chloro-8-fluoro-9-oxo-9H-xanthen-3-yloxyacetic acid.
USE: Useful as a diuretic having uricostic activity and useful for the remedy of edema or hypertension.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the compound of formula II with the compound of formula A-CH2-COOR (A is halogen), preferably in an inert solvent in the presence of a base.
