PURPOSE: To provide a Ziegler-Natta-type catalyst system which gives an olefin polymer having a high stereospecificity and good configuration characteristics by compounding a solid component contg. Ti, Mg, a halogen, and a specific cyclic dicarboxylic diester with an organoaluminum compd. an electron donor, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This catalyst system for olefin polymn. is prepd. by compounding, as the active constituents, a titanium-contg. solid component (A) contg. titanium, magnesium, a halogen, and a diester of a dicarboxylic acid represented by formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-15C alkyl, 7-17C alkaryl, or a 5- to 7-membered cycloalkyl group optionally having a 1-10C alkyl) or formula II (wherein R3 and R4 are each the same as R1) with an organoaluminum compd. (B) and optionally as electron donor (C).
