The image pickup device 10 is equipped with a driving device and a position detector which move a 2nd lens group GR2 and a 4th lens group GR4 and detect their positions, a storage device, an arithmetic unit, and a temperature detector; and temperature information based upon the output of the temperature detector is inputted to the arithmetic unit, which controls the operation of the driving device according to position correction information in the storage device and the temperature information from the temperature detector so that the relative position relation between the 2nd and 4th lens groups is different from that at room temperature.
