Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus, a system and a method for localizing a lesion within the body of a patient, e.g., within a breast.SOLUTION: The system include one or more markers 620 implantable within or around a target tissue region, and a probe for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals to detect the one or more markers. During use, the markers are into the target tissue region, and the probe is placed against the patient's skin to detect and localize the markers. A tissue specimen, including the lesion and the markers, is then removed from the target tissue region based at least partially on the localization information from the probe.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 37
