Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the free carbon-containing hard metal and coated hard metal which remove or reduce the defects of the free carbon even when the hard metal contains the free carbon, in particular restrain strength deterioration by finely dispersing the free carbon even if the free carbon is contained in the hard metal, and also enable obtaining a beautiful mirror plane in a mirror-finished surface by finely dispersing the free carbon in the hard metal.SOLUTION: There is provided a hard metal comprising tungsten carbide (WC) and cobalt (Co) containing the carbon content of a range in which a solid carbon is not contained in a liquid phase when the liquid phase exists at high temperature. The hard metal is characterized in that the maximum diameter of a blowhole resulting from the free carbon is 20 μm or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
