Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a knitted component (1000, 1300) for an article of footwear (100), the method including: knitting a portion of the knitted component (1000, 1300) defining an upper (1002, 1302) with a knitting machine (1700), the upper (1002, 1302) including a portion of at least one of an exterior surface of the knitted component (1000, 1300) and an opposite interior surface of the knitted component (1000, 1300); and knitting an integral knit tongue (1010, 1310) that is of unitary knit construction with the upper (1002, 1302) with the knitting machine (1700), the integral knit tongue (1010, 1310) extending through a throat area (1020, 1320) of the knitted component (1000, 1300); wherein the integral knit tongue (1010, 1310) is joined by knitting with the knitting machine (1700) to a forward portion of the throat area (1020, 1320) and at least along a portion of a lateral side and a medial side of the throat area (1020, 1320) of the knitted component (1000, 1300)) extending from the forward portion to an ankle opening of the upper (1002, 1302), and wherein the integral knit tongue (1010, 1310) includes multiple knit structures of different types.
