Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that prevents creation of an incorrect character sting, when a character string element is constituted of a plurality of connected components, and an area including subsequent character string elements includes a connected component not required for constituting a character string.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: detection means for detecting a combination of connected components inside an area of a target image; character string element candidate creation means for creating a collection of character string element candidates to be candidates of character string elements that can constitute a character string on the basis of the combination of the connected components detected by the detection means; and character string element selection means for selecting a character string element subsequent to a character string element selected in the past from the collection of the character string element candidates created by the character string element candidate creation means.
