Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing rare earth metal capable of separating each rare earth element from a treatment material such as a rare earth magnet at high purity and also recovering each rare earth element at low power.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing rare earth metal comprising: an oxide formation step where an electrode consisting of a treatment material in which at least a part includes a rare earth element(s) and a gas electrode are arranged in a molten salt, and an oxygen gas-containing gas is fed to the gas electrode, and, by the rare earth element(s) and oxygen gas dissolution reaction into the molten salt, electric energy is generated, and further, the oxide of the above rare earth element(s) is formed; and a rare earth element recovery step where the rare earth element(s) is recovered from the oxide of the above rare earth element(s).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
