PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of a staining result.SOLUTION: A specimen staining mechanism 13 is a staining mechanism for staining a specimen. A positive-control staining mechanism 17 is a staining mechanism for staining a positive control sample. A mechanism control unit 25 controls the specimen staining mechanism 13 and the positive-control staining mechanism 17 to stain the positive control sample in parallel to staining of the specimen. An optical imaging unit 21 repeatedly, optically images the positive control sample and repeatedly generates optical images relating to the positive control sample. An image processing unit 23 compares a pixel value of pixels of the repeatedly generated optical images with a threshold and issues a stop signal indicating that the pixel value reaches the threshold if the pixel value reaches the threshold.
