Abstract:
To provide an energy-saving traction system for railway vehicles directly traveling through an electrified section and a non-electrified section, the traction system being capable of completing coolant pre-heating and warm-up operation for a minimum required period until the vehicle travels in the non-electrified section. A traction system for railway vehicles using a diesel engine generator traction system includes: a coolant pre-heating time calculating unit which, on the basis of outside air temperature and coolant temperature information respectively obtained by an outside air temperature sensor and a coolant temperature sensor, selects an optimum curve from coolant pre-heating curves stored in an information storage unit, and estimates a minimum time required for pre-heating coolant to a predetermined temperature; a coolant pre-heating start position calculating unit which determines a point of starting the pre-heating of coolant on the basis of engine operation start point information similarly stored in the information storage unit; and a current travel position calculating unit which specifies a current travel position by collating the point passage information detected by a travel position detector, with the route information stored in the information storage unit, and further calculates a current travel position by correction by a travel speed sensor. The traction system is further configured such that the pre-heating of coolant is started when the current travel position of the vehicle passes through the pre-heating start point.
