PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which, when the size of a heat radiation member of a light source is secured, the number of light sources is limited and high luminance in a surface becomes difficult to achieve.SOLUTION: A surface light source device 100 includes a plurality of light sources 4, a plurality of light guide rods 2 and a housing 5. The light source 4 emits light. The light guide rod 2 is rod-shaped, includes a light incident surface 23 at an end part in the longitudinal direction of the rod shape, and converts light entering from the light incident surface 23 into linear light. The housing 5 is box-shaped and it has: a bottom plate part 51; side plate parts 52, 53, 54, 55 arranged at the position corresponding to the sides of the bottom plate part 51; and an opening 56 opposing to the bottom plate part 51. The housing 5 has a reflection surface on the surface inside the box shape. The region in which the linear light of the light guide rods 2 is emitted is arranged inside the box shape of the housing 5. An emission part 403 of the light of the light source 4 is arranged opposing to the light incident surface 23. The plurality of light guide rods 2 are arranged side by side in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The light sources 4 arranged adjacent to each other are arranged being deviated in the longitudinal direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
