PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material useful as the positive electrode material of a lithium ion secondary battery, and the like, and containing a novel lithium silicate-based compound.SOLUTION: The positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery containing a lithium silicate-based compound that contains Li, Fe, Si and O. The positive electrode active material has the oxidation-reduction potential of Li as a reference potential, and the charge/discharge capacity from first cycle through fifth cycle is 200 mAh/g or more, in the initial (first cycle) voltage range of 1.5-4.8 V, and subsequent voltage range of 1.5-4.5 V.
