An apparatus for controlling the discharge of material from a hopper container (12) having a discharge opening (24) through which said material is discharged and a gate mechanism (26) movable between a closed position and an opened position relative to the discharge opening (24), is provided that includes a gearbox (32), a motor (34), a drive mechanism, and a controller.
