Title:
BORON ABSORPTION-PROMOTING GENE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2006/106678
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
It is intended to provide boron absorption-promoting gene relating to the absorption of boron by which the incorporation of born from the environment and boron transport in vivo can be more efficiently controlled. A gene NIP5;1, which shows an increase in the accumulation of mRNA in Arabidopsis root under low-boron conditions, is found out. Further, a NIP5;1 prmoter::GUS Arabidopsis transformant is constructed and grown in media with different boron concentrations. Then, the GUS activities are measured. As a result, a stronger GUS activity is observed in boron absorption promotion in a medium having the lower boron concentration, which indicates that the NIP5;1 promoter activity is induced under low-boron conditions. As the results of studies on the tissue-specificity of the NIP5;1 expression with the use of the NIP5;1 prmoter::GUS Arabidopsis transformant, it is found out that this gene is strongly expressed in epidermal cells in root elongation areas.
