Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1997/030929
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a cap opener comprising a body (1) comprising a notch (2) with an opening (5) and flanges (6). Hereby two flanges, located opposite each other, comprise catches (7), which extend essentially towards the center of the opening. The said opening is arranged to extend throughout the body, whereby it comprises essentially symmetrical catches. Such a symmetrical and compact embodiment of the cap opener simplifies the placing of it on the cap of a bottle. Description:
CAP OPENER

The invention relates to a cap opener comprising a body, which comprises a notch, provided with an opening and flanges, whereby the two flanges, located opposite each other, comprise catches, extending essentially towards the center of the opening.

The invention also relates to an advertising product comprising an essentially elongate body with a cap opener arranged in it.

A cap opener of the present invention can be advantageously used e.g. in different types of gift items, where the cap opening function can be con¬ sidered useful, like in a package, a pen or a comb.

The attaching of a cap opener to a number of different items, like for instance the end of a pen, knives, company key-rings etc. is previously known. The known technique has certain disadvantages. Since the cap opener requires a lever to function properly, it is formed so as to always be lo¬ cated at the very end of a handle or some other body. This unfavourably limits the design of the final product whereto the cap opener has been attached. Furthermore, known products are designed to be used essentially in a certain way only, i.e. the cap opener must always be placed in the same position on the cap.

The disadvantages arranged in known solutions are avoided with the present invention. Hereby the object of the present invention is to design the cap opener so that it will be easier to place in the body. Another object of the invention is to obtain a cap opener that is easy to use and without pro- nounced lever or catch parts.

The solution to the problems mentioned above has been achieved by means of the characteristics of the present invention set forth in the claims. Thus it is characteristic of the present invention that the opening extends throughout the body, whereby it comprises two parallel flanges pro- vided with essentially symmetrical catches.

The symmetrical and compact design of the cap opener of the pre¬ sent invention makes placing it on the cap of a bottle easier. Thus the user does not have to pay attention to how he/she takes hold of the body of the cap opener. The two catches of the cap opener can be used both as catches and levers when opening the cap.

Owing to its symmetrical design the cap opener can be placed e.g.

in the middle of a pen, whereby the two halves of the pen enclosing the opener can be used as levers. The symmetrical and compact design makes it possible to attach a cap opening function to very small products and still to obtain enough strength. In the following the invention will be described in greater detail with reference to the drawing, in which

Figure 1 shows an embodiment of a cap opener of the present in¬ vention,

Figure 2 shows another embodiment of a cap opener of the present invention,

Figure 3 shows a cap opener arranged in an advertising product, such as a bottle,

Figure 4 shows a cap opener arranged in an advertising product such as a pen, and Figures 5 - 6 show a cap opener arranged in an advertising product, such as a comb.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 1 the cap opener comprises a body 1. This body can be elongate and thus in itself constitute the lever of the cap opener. The body can also be arranged in an- other body, which preferably functions as the said lever. The body 1 comprises a notch 2 that extends below the surface level 3 of the body, whereby the notch comprises at least two essentially parallel side walls 4 and an opening 5 at the surface level. A flange 6 is formed at the junction, or hypothetical junc¬ tion, between a side wall and the surface level. The body comprises catches 7, extending essentially towards the center of the opening, in the area of the two flanges that are located opposite each other. Between the catches there is a gap, arranged to receive a cap placed on the cap opener.

According to Figure 1 , the catches 7 are formed of local projections in the side walls 4, whereby they extend towards the center of the opening of the notch.

The catches 7 can also be shaped according to Figure 2, so that e.g. metal profiles are arranged in the body and extend towards the center of the opening of the notch.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention the notch 2 extends 6 - 8 mm below the surface plane. The catches are arranged to extend preferably

2 - 4 mm towards the center of the opening, whereby the opening between the

catches will comprise a gap of 12 - 16 mm.

Owing to its small size the cap opener of the invention can advan¬ tageously be arranged in an advertising product, especially if that comprises an elongate body 8 without taking up much space. Thus the cap opener ac- cording to Figure 3 is arranged in the bottom of a bottle. This bottle can, for in¬ stance, be a miniature model of a product known in itself, to the bottom of which the cap opener has been attached. The cap opener can also form a part of the bottle body of such a miniature model.

According to Figure 4 the cap opener is arranged in a pen. Since the construction of the cap opener does not restrict the direction from where the cap is placed on the cap opener, the cap opener can be placed both in the middle of the pen as well as at both its ends.

A cap opener according to the present invention can also advanta¬ geously be arranged in a comb. Also when arranged to a comb the cap opener can be arranged in both ends of it.

When the cap opener is arranged in an advertising product it should be taken into account that the material used in manufacturing the body is strong enough. Preferably the body is made of metal, e.g. light metal, like of an aluminium sheet or aluminium tubes. The invention is not restricted to the applications described above, but can be modified in many ways within the scope of the invention described in the appended claims.
