Abstract:
By forming a composite comprising nanoparticles of a europium(II) compound and nanoparticles of a metal, it is possible to make use of surface plasmons at the surfaces of the metal nanoparticles while having the nanoparticles of the europium(II) compound exhibit the quantum size effect. This in turn allows improved magneto-optical properties. A composite thin film comprising the nanoparticles of the europium(II) compound and the metal nanoparticles may also be formed.
