Abstract:
The present inventors have found that a pyridoxal synthetic enzyme Pyridoxamine-5'-phosphate oxidase (PNPO) acts as an oxygen sensing mechanism for a novel pathway that is independent from an HIF pathway in chronic hypoxia. A pharmaceutical composition containing, as an active ingredient, pyridoxal produced with PNPO or a phosphate of the pyridoxal is effective as a supplement or a pharmaceutical composition for improving the exacerbation of an inflammatory reaction by chronic hypoxia. A product produced by an enzymatic reaction in which pyridoxal or pyridoxal phosphate is involved as a coenzyme, more specifically a supersulfide or a ferrous compound, is also effective as a supplement or a pharmaceutical composition for improving the exacerbation of an inflammatory reaction by chronic hypoxia.
