Abstract:
In a system in which a database process among processes of a computer is offloaded to one or more hardware circuits, each of which comprises a memory, the computer divides a column store database, which is configured of a plurality of records and a plurality of columns, into a plurality of data segments. One or more columns of the plurality of columns are respectively one or more columns to be compressed. Each of the plurality of data segments comprises: a column store database portion which is configured of one or more records of the plurality of records; and a compression dictionary, which is a dictionary which is used in expanding one or more of the column portions to be compressed among said column store database portion. In each of the plurality of data segments, the size of the compression dictionary is less than or equal to the size of the memory.
