Abstract:
Provided is a cutting insert capable of designing, each in an optimal shape, a chip breaker for a cutting blade used to cut the outermost area of a hole and a chip breaker for a cutting blade used for cutting the center area of a hole. The cutting insert has an upper surface (2) of a substantially polygon shape, a lower surface (3) of a substantially polygon shape, and a plurality of side surfaces (4m, 4s) extending between the upper surface (2) and the lower surface (3). The plurality of side surfaces (4m, 4s) include a main side surface (4m) configuring a flank surface for a linear cutting blade (5b) and an auxiliary side surface (4s) configuring a flank surface for a corner cutting blade (5a). The flank angle of the main side surface (4m) is 0° and the flank angle of the auxiliary side surface (4s) is larger than 0°. The cutting insert also has a second cutting blade (8) at the intersection of the main side surface (4s) and the lower surface (3).
