Abstract:

This cutting insert is provided with a lower surface of polygonal shape having side parts and a pair of corner parts, an upper surface, a lateral surface situated between the lower surface and the upper surface, a pair of corner cutting blades located at a pair of corners at a line of intersection of the upper surface and the lateral surface, and a principal cutting blade located in a side portion at a line of intersection of the upper surface and the lateral surface. The principal cutting blade is upwardly convex in shape, and in side view has an upwardly convex curving portion, and a pair of linear portions respectively extending towards the pair of corner cutting blades from the curving portion. The apical portion of the curving portion is situated on the bias towards one of the corner cutting blades which, of the pair of corner cutting blades, is that contiguous to the working surface of the cut material during cutting of the cut material.
