Abstract:

A cutting insert has a pair of polygonal surfaces (3,3) spaced from each other, a polygonal insert body (2) having a plurality of facets between the pair of polygonal surfaces, and cutting edges (8A,8B,8C) at the edges of a first facet (4) that serves as a rake face. A second facet (6) opposite to the first facet that abuts an insert seat of a tool has a pair of V-shaped abutting surfaces (6A, 6A) as viewed in the direction of thickness of the insert body, each of the abutting surfaces having convex profile as viewed in a cross section taken in the direction the thickness. The V-shaped abutting surfaces have a convex V shape such that the gap becomes deeper toward the center of the second facet.
