Abstract:
The present invention provides a cutting tool which renders high-precision cutting possible. This cutting tool includes a cutting blade that is constituted of a polycrystalline object obtained from a nondiamond carbon material and/or boron nitride as a starting material by directly converting the starting material, through sintering, into high-pressure-phase rigid grains under ultrahigh-pressure high-temperature conditions without adding any sintering aid or catalyst, the rigid grains comprising one or more elements selected from the group consisting of boron, carbon, and nitrogen. The cutting tool is characterized in that when the radius of curvature of the tip of the cutting blade is expressed by R1, the sintered grains constituting the polycrystalline object have an average grain diameter of 1.2×R1 or less and a maximum grain diameter of 2×R1 or less.
