Abstract:
A cutting tool including a substrate and a coating layer that is provided on the substrate. The coating layer comprises a titanium carbonitride layer that is provided on the substrate, an intermediate layer that is provided on the titanium carbonitride layer so as to be in contact therewith, and an alumina layer that is provided on the intermediate layer so as to be in contact therewith, the intermediate layer being formed from a compound that comprises titanium, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, the thickness of the intermediate layer being greater than 1 μm, and, when PC1 at% is the proportion of carbon atoms at the interface between the intermediate layer and the alumina layer and PC2 at% is the proportion of carbon atoms at a point A that is 1 μm from the interface on the intermediate layer side, the ratio PC1/PC2 of PC1 to PC2 is at least 1.03.
