There is provided an electronic device authenticating a user by using face image information. A user can enjoy registration of the authentication image and authentication operation. Face image data inputted via an imaging section (5) is compared to correlation data in a non-volatile memory (4) for performing authentication of the user. The electronic device (100) has a function for imitating a character and displaying it on a display section (6). Moreover, the electronic device (100) has an acquisition start judgment function to judge whether a new face image of the user should be and can be imaged so as to increase the right answer ratio of authentication. When it is judged that a new face image should be and can be imaged, a character image is displayed on the display section (6) and it is notified to the user whether to start acquisition of correlation data. Moreover, when performing the correlation processing, the character image is displayed on the display section (6).
