Abstract:
Disclosed is an exhaust purification device for an internal combustion engine that is controlled such that the combustion air fuel ratio is lean during the normal operation. The exhaust purification device for an internal combustion engine comprises an adsorption part (51) which adsorbs unburnt fuel contained in an exhaust gas, and an oxidation part (52) which comprises catalyst particles (62) of a metal that oxidizes carbon monoxide. The adsorption part (51) contains a zeolite (61) that substantially adsorbs a lower olefin contained in the exhaust gas. The adsorption part (51) and the oxidation part (52) are arranged such that the exhaust gas comes into contact with the adsorption part (51) first and then comes into contact with the oxidation part (52).
