Abstract:
The present invention makes it possible to prevent color breakup while preventing a decrease in light utilization efficiency, and display an image with excellent color reproducibility. In a field sequential liquid crystal display device with each frame composed of a plurality of sub-frames of red, green, blue, and white (common color), an image data converter 30 converts, for each pixel, input image data D1 corresponding to red, green, and blue into driving image data D2 corresponding to the plurality of sub-frames. That is, input image data D1 is converted into driving image data D2 using an adjustment factor and a distribution ratio expressed by a function that changes smoothly in accordance with the saturation, so that a pixel value Wd in a white sub-frame is greater than pixel values Rd, Gd, and Bd in other sub-frames for an achromatic pixel, and a pixel value Wd in a white sub-frame is greater than the minimum value and less than the maximum value among the pixel values Rd, Gd, and Bd in other sub-frames for a pixel with a saturation S greater than a prescribed value.
