Abstract:
There is provided a freestanding hygroscopic metal-polymer composite film that switches between a hydrate state and a dehydrated state upon absorbing and desorbing water, respectively, wherein the composite film has a regeneration temperature of < 65 °C at which the composite film regenerates from the hydrated state to the dehydrated state. In a specific embodiment, the composite film comprises a metal-based coordination compound and a polymeric matrix, wherein the metal-based coordination compound is formed by a coordination reaction between a metal salt and an organic ligand comprising at least one of amine, alcohol or a combination thereof. There is also provided a method of forming the composite film.
