Description:
High energy efficiency apparatus for generating the gas mixture of hydrogen and oxygen by water electrolysis

Field of the Invention This invention relates to apparatus for generating the gas mixture (Brown gas) of hydrogen and oxygen by water electrolysis, particularly the Brown gas generator which enhances energy efficiency for water electrolysis by applying MHD (Magnetohydrodynamics) effects and catalytic effects to water electrolysis in magnetic field. Background and Object of the Invention

For this Brown gas to be widely used as a fuel source for human life, its generator has to be high in energy efficiency, small in volume, low in operation pressure, and safe in use.

Hydrogen gas generation by water electrolysis has a long history, but has not yet been widely used due to its large power consumption. Therefore, there have been recent researches to reduce power consumption when generating hydrogen and oxygen by water electrolysis, which has resulted in various solutions.

Those improved solutions, so far, mainly include increasing electrolysis efficiency due to the decomposition of water clusters and increase of active hydrogen content by processing water with magnetic field at the prior stage of the water electrolysis process; and due to the applying of magnetic field in the water electrolysis process.

(

The PCT/US2011/057306 has disclosed the method to increase water electrolysis efficiency both by applying high magnetic field which is perpendicular to the electrolytic solution flow and parallel to electric current flow and by irradiating ultrasonic wave and infrared rays.

The Japan Patent JP 4796373 (PCT/JP2006/320908), meanwhile, has disclosed the method to increase water electrolysis efficiency by increasing activity of water molecules due to the decomposition of water clusters through magnetization processing of water at the prior stage of the water electrolysis process. In prior art, however, has only been considered the decomposition of clusters and increase of the magnetic susceptibility of water through magnetization processing of water, but has not observed the MHD effect by the interaction between the electric current passing through electrolytic solution and the magnetic field perpendicular to the electric current.

The object of the invention is to provide the high energy efficient Brown gas generator.

Then, inside the electrolyzer, there concurrently happens the increase in the activity of water molecules through decomposition of water clusters, and the decrease in the rate of bubble fillings, the decrease in the capacity of electric double layer on the electrode face, and the increase in the velocity of ion diffusion through propulsion of electrolytic solution, which all contribute to the promotion of water electrolysis. In the present invention, for further enhanced water electrolysis efficiency, the electrolytic solution include 2~5wt% of complex catalyst composed of 2~2.8wt% NaOH or KOH, 0.01~0.1wt% H 2 Mo0 4 , 0.05~0.2wt% V 2 0 5 , and 0.01~0.05wt% Ce0 2 ..

Furthermore, the said invention provides information on safe use of hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture generator. The safety of hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture has to be thoroughly ensured in order to use the hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture as a fuel. For this purpose, in the present invention air pump be directly connected to gas-liquid separator so as to change 2:1 molar ratio of gas mixture immediately after its generation, the pressure of gas mixture controlled to below 0.2 atm., and the flashback arrester disposed at the distance of 50~200mm from the combustion burner which combusts gas mixture.

The hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture generator, according to the present invention, comprises the electrolytic device which generates combustible hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture from water, the air. pump which changes the generated hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture into safer combustible gas immediately after its gas-liquid separation, the power control device which supplies electric power to the electrolytic device and the air pump, and the combustion device equipped with flashback arrester. The electrolytic device comprises an electrolyzer and at least two magnetization device for magnetizing water and forming magnetic field in the electrolyzer, wherein the magnetic field of magnetizing device positioned around the conduit for electrolytic solution circulation is perpendicular to the directions of electrolytic solution flow, and the magnetic field of magnetizing device forming magnetic field in the electrolyzer is perpendicular to the current of the electrolyzer.

The electrolyzer includes at least two main electrodes and at least two minor electrodes, and the electrolytic solution flowing through the electrolyzer contains 2~5wt%, preferably 3~4wt% of complex catalyst composed of 2~2.8wt% NaOH or KOH, 0.01~0.1wt% H2M0O4, 0.05~0.2wt% V 2 0 5 , and 0.01~0.05wt% Ce0 2 . The flux density of the magnetization device is 3000-15000Gs and, preferably, 8000-13000GS.

Due to the interaction between the asymmetric pulse current flowed to electrolyzer and 8000-13000Gs of flux density of magnetic field perpendicularly applied to this current, water cluster decomposition effect is generated in the electrolytic solution between the electrodes of electrolyzer to enhance the electrode reaction activity of water molecule.

Meanwhile, due to the interaction between the asymmetric pulse current and magnetic field, the propulsive force of electrolytic solution toward the top position of electrolyzer is generated to accelerate the liquid circulation, to enhance the release velocity, of foam, created in the electrolytic solution, to reduce the electric resistance of electrolytic solution, and at last to consume less energy to realize the water decomposition, that is, the effect of hydrogen-oxygen gas generation from the water electrolysis is enhanced due to the combination of water cluster decomposition by the discontinuous MHD vibration and the propulsive force by the MHD effect, wherein the content of complex catalyst in the electrolytic solution is about 4 percent.

The 2:1 molar ratio of hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture generated by the electrolytic device is mixed with the air inserted from the air pump to become the inexplosive fuel > gas, which is passed through the first dehumidifier and .the, second dehumidifier to ; ·, . become> mixed more, uniformly with moisture, .removing,, .a ,. . flashback arrester to be burned in the burner at last.

It is addressed that once said complex catalyst is- combined with the MHD effect, efficiency of water decomposition can be more enhanced. . ¾ ,
