Title:
HIGHLY INSULATING EXPANDABLE POLYSTYRENE PARTICLES, METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME, AND STYROFOAM PRODUCED WITH THE PARTICLES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/134736
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing expandable polystyrene particles with improved insulating properties, to expandable polystyrene particles obtained by the method, and to Styrofoam produced with the particles. The method for producing expandable polystyrene particles of the present invention involves injecting 1 to 15 wt % of heat-insulating material having a particle size of 1-70μm to the expandable polystyrene particles, stirring the mixture, and spraying a styrene-dissolving solvent to soften the surface of the expandable polystyrene particles and to enable the heat insulating material to infiltrate the surface layers of the particles to coat the surface layers. The molded body (Styrofoam) produced with the expandable polystyrene particles of the present invention has superior heat-insulating properties, higher impact strength and flexural rigidity, and a low absorptance rate of 0.3-0.5 (g/cm2).
