Title:
HOLEY FIBER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/001858
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A holey fiber is provided with a core located at the center of the fiber and also with a cladding located on the outer periphery of the core and having holes formed and arranged in layers around the core.  The holes are arranged so as to form a grid pattern composed of triangles.  If the diameter of the holes is d (μm) and the grid constant of the grid pattern is Λ (μm), d/Λ is within the range of 0.43 ± 0.03 and Λ is 20 - 24 μm.  Single mode operation occurs at the wavelength of 1,550 nm, and the effective cross-sectional area of the core at the wavelength of 1550 nm is 500 μm2 or greater.  The holey fiber has low linearity and at the same time has single mode operating characteristics and practical bending loss characteristics.
