Abstract:

Provided is a hydrodesulfurization catalyst for hydrocarbon oils which exhibits an excellent hydrodesulfurization performance and has a long life. The hydrodesulfurization catalyst for hydrocarbons contains a carrier formed of a composite oxide and a catalytic component, said catalytic component being held on said carrier and comprising sulfide of a metal belonging to Group 6A in the periodic table, sulfide of a metal belonging to Group 8 in the periodic table and a carbonaceous material, the average face distance of the face (002) of the sulfide of the metal belonging to Group 6A in the periodic table, that is observed in a transmission electron microscopic photograph, being 5 nm or less, and said sulfide of the metal belonging to Group 6A in the periodic table consisting of 3 or less layers on average, wherein said carrier satisfies the following requirements in ammonia adsorption calorimetry: (1) the content of an acid having an ammonia adsorption energy of 90 kJ/mol or more being 0.32 mmol/g or less; and (2) the ratio of the content of an acid having an ammonia adsorption energy of 90 kJ/mol or more to the content of an acid having an ammonia adsorption energy of 70 kJ/mol or more being 60% or less.
