An image signal processing apparatus comprises a first correction gray scale processing part (520) that performs such a correction gray scale process that elongates the gray scale width in the high or low luminance area of an image signal; a gray scale processing part (530) that performs a space-variant gray scale process of the entire luminance area of the image signal; and a second correction gray scale processing part (540) that performs a correction gray scale process in accordance with a display apparatus.
