Abstract:
A novel device (10) for remote information download and transfer for downloading a secure, permanent record of criminal activity and/or accident evidence relating to a vehicle (53) for evidentiary purposes which may be directly transferred to an information center (52) and/or the authorities through a transmission link (42) which is preferably a satellite (54) up/link-down/link or saved directly onto the downloading device (10). The remote downloading device (10) may be activated automatically or upon a trigger signal and comprises an interface (18), an information capturing storage device (32), a video monitor display (48) and preferably a transceiver(40). The interface (18) communicates with an information storage device (32), downloads the information saved therein and transmits it to the capture storage device (32), transceiver (40) or both. The information may be displayed on the visual display monitor (48) or transmitted via the transceiver (40) to an off site location.
