A light detection device 1 comprising a semiconductor substrate 20, a plurality of pad electrodes 42, and a plurality of wiring portions 43. The semiconductor substrate 20 has a first main surface and a second main surface that are opposite to each other. The semiconductor substrate 20 comprises a plurality of cells 22. Each of the plurality of cells 22 comprises at least one avalanche photodiode 23. The plurality of pad electrodes 42 are positioned at a distance from the plurality of cells 22 on the first main surface 20a. The plurality of wiring portions 43 are positioned on the first main surface 20a. The plurality of wiring portions 43 connect corresponding cells 22 and pad electrodes 42. The semiconductor substrate 20 comprises a peripheral carrier absorption portion 24 that absorbs carriers and is positioned at the periphery thereof. When viewed from a direction orthogonal to the first main surface 20a, the peripheral carrier absorption portion 24 is provided surrounding the pad electrodes 42 and the wiring portions 43.
