Abstract:
A liquid cartridge (110) has arranged in it a detection target member (115) and
a float member (116) fixed to the detection target member (115). When liquid
in the liquid cartridge (110) decreases and comes near the float member (116),
the float member (116) moves in the direction Q1. In operative association with
this, the detection target member (115) moves, and a light shutoff section (162a),
a slit (161), and a light shutoff section (162b) that are formed at the detection
target member (115) are sequentially positioned at a detection position (142).
This means that the residual amount of the liquid can be known in at least three
stages by making an optical sensor detect which one of the light shutoff section
(162a), the slit (161), and the light shutoff section (162b) is positioned at
the detection position (142). Thus, even with the use of the fixed optical sensor,
the residual amount of the liquid in the liquid cartridge (110) can be known in
multiple stages.
