Abstract:
Each pixel of the liquid crystal display device has a reflective region (R) and a transmissive region (T); a pixel electrode (14) is equipped with a reflective pixel electrode (15) and a transparent pixel electrode (14t); and the device comprises a pair of vertical orientation films (32a, 32b) provided between the pixel electrode (14) and a liquid crystal layer (42) and between an opposing electrode (24) and the liquid crystal layer (42), and a pair of orientation maintenance layers (34a, 34b) which are comprised of a photopolymer and which are formed respectively on the surfaces on the liquid crystal layer-sides of the pair of vertical orientation films. A first or a second substrate has multiple convex parts (23A) which protrude to the liquid crystal layer side, and which are provided corresponding to the reflective regions of the multiple pixels. For any row, the interval between two convex parts which are adjacent to one another in the row direction is larger than the interval between two pixels which are adjacent to one another. A transflective liquid crystal display device having a multi-gap structure is thereby provided without the occurrence of bright spots even when PSA technology is applied.
