Abstract:
This liquid crystal display device (1) is provided with: a liquid crystal panel (2); a lighting device (8) arranged on the light entry side of the liquid crystal panel (2); and a light control member (9) arranged on the light emission side of the liquid crystal panel (2). The liquid crystal panel (2) is provided with a plurality of pixels in which the director of the liquid crystal molecules in an intermediate region in the thickness direction of a liquid crystal layer (11) is oriented in a first direction when voltage is applied thereto. The absorption axis of a first polarizing plate (3) and the absorption axis of a second polarizing plate (7) are orthogonal to each other and form an angle that is not parallel to the first direction. The light control member (9) is provided with a substrate (39), a light-diffusing section (41), a light-blocking section (40), and a low refractive index section (42). The lighting device (8) is provided with a structure in which the amount of light emitted in a direction perpendicular to the first direction is greater than the amount of light emitted in a direction parallel to the first direction when viewed from the normal direction of the substrate (39).
