Abstract:
The application discloses metal oxides having the formula LiaECiMlbM2cOx to be used as counter electrode (anode) material for electrochromic devices, wherein EC is a first metal species selected among a mixture of bivalent and trivalent nickel (Ni), a mixture of bivalent and trivalent cobalt (Co), a mixture of tetravalent and pentavalent iridium (Ir) or a mixture of bivalent, trivalent and tetravalent manganese (Mn), Ml is a second metal species selected among tetravalent zirconium, tetravalent hafnium, pentavalent tantalum (Ta), pentavalent niobium (Nb) or esavalent tungsten (W), M2 is selected among pentavalent vanadium (V), pentavalent tantalum (Ta), pentavalent niobium (Nb), tetravalent manganese (Mn), trivalent lanthanum (La) or tetravalent cerium, and wherein "a" ranges from about 0.5 to about 3, b+c ranges from about 0.1 to about 1, c/(b+c) ranges from about 0.1 to about 0.9, and x ranges from about 0.1 to about 50. Methods of making these compounds as well as their use in thin film materials and electrochromic devices are also disclosed.
