Abstract:
The present invention provides: a membrane electrode assembly capable of suppressing increase in the electrolysis voltage if used in a water electrolysis system or an electrolytic hydrogenation system even in cases where the current density has increased; a solid polymer electrolyte membrane; a water electrolysis system; and an electrolytic hydrogenation system. A membrane electrode assembly according to the present invention comprises an anode that has a catalyst layer, a cathode that has a catalyst layer, and a solid polymer electrolyte membrane that is arranged between the anode and the cathode; the solid polymer electrolyte membrane contains a woven fabric and a fluorine-containing polymer that has an ion exchange group; the aperture ratio of the woven fabric is 50% or more; and the ratio TAAVE/TBAVE, which is calculated from the average maximum film thickness TAAVE and the average minimum film thickness TBAVE of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane, is 1.20 or more.
