A method for molding a composite material that molds a composite material by shaping a laminate of a plurality of fiber sheets using a mold and curing, wherein the composite material includes a product part that serves as the part that will be molded as a product and a surplus part connected to the product part; the mold has a first molding surface that molds the product part, a second molding surface that molds the surplus part, and a depression for drawing in part of the laminate placed on the second molding surface; and the method comprises a step for placing the laminate in the mold with part of the laminate facing the depression, a step that covers the laminate by a covering member and creates an airtight seal between the covering member and the mold, a step that suctions the atmosphere between the covering member and the mold, draws part of the laminate into the depression, and shapes the laminate, and a step that molds a composite material containing the product part and the surplus part by curing the shaped laminate.
