Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING CERAMIC GRADIENT LAYERS ON A METALLIC SUBSTRATE BY MEANS OF AN IN SITU REACTION WITH NON-OXIDISING PRECURSOR IN A SI-C-N (M) SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2004101841
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing metallic substrates provided with superficial gradient layers and to a metallic substrate provided with a superficial gradient layer which is producible by said method. Titanium or a titanium alloy is preferably used as substrate. The surface gradient layer is obtained by pyrolysis of a polymer precursor coating with a main polymer skeleton containing silicon such as a polysilazane, a polycarbosilazane or similar and metal-containing derivatives thereof. The parameters of molecular weight, degree of branching and ceramic yield in combination with the duration and temperature determine to properties of the layers produced. Said invention also relates to the use of said metallic substrate provided with a superficial gradient layer in the form of an element implantable into a human or animal body.
